Biodiversity CD-ROM
12.05.2009
As part of a public awareness programme supported by the Walloon Region, the IPF has created in collaboration with the WWF an educational CD-ROM focusing on biodiversity and climate change.
Although climate change is currently a highly debated topic, this is not the case for biodiversity, which is of vital interest to the health of both humankind and the Earth.
Biodiversity helps humans in many ways. However human activity has been creating problems for biodiversity. It is estimated that between one third and one half of all species living in Belgium are currently threatened, which also entails environmental, social, economic and cultural consequences.
In order to raise awareness among young people, the biodiversity CD-ROM contains 15 one to two-minute flash animations discussing the consequences climate change has on biodiversity. The topics covered in the CD-ROM are:
- Biodiversity: Introduction
- Biodiversity: Climate change
- Biodiversity: Species displacement
- The benefits of biodiversity
- Biodiversity: Invasive Species
- Biodiversity and Food
- Biodiversity: Natural Rhythms
- Biodiversity: Coral Reefs
- Biodiversity in the Arctic
- Biodiversity in Belgium
- Biodiversity in the High Fens
- Biodiversity in the North Sea
- Preserving biodiversity: Adaptation strategies
- Biodiversity: Things we can do in our daily lives
- Biodiversity: Test your knowledge
