At the end of August 2008, the third in a series of four articles about "The Belgians in Antarctica" will be published in the JCWeetje magazine. This article (PDF) highlights the most recent BELARE expedition, during which the Princess Elisabeth station was built.

The first article, published at the end of February 2008, retraced the history of Belgians in Antarctica through important milestones:

  • the 1897 Belgica expedition by Adrien de Gerlache
  • the building and re-building of the King Baudouin Station
  • the genesis of the Princess Elisabeth station project

The second article then covered the first three BELARE expeditions (BELgian Antarctic Research Expeditions) preparing the building phase of the station.

The last article in the series will be published at the end of November 2008 and will focus on the scientific research to be carried out at the station. Meanwhile, teaching dossiers dedicated to the station are available in Dutch, French and English on the Princess Elisabeth station's website.
