The Arctic Arc - Interactive Question 3: Water and Ice
Water is esssential for the Earth's meteorological and climatic system: Ocean water evaporates in warm regions and is then redistributed elsewhere by winds under the form of snow or rain; clouds are made of small water droplets or ice crystals; the big oceanic currents influence the temperature of many regions around the world.
In the same way, the Polar regions, the world's biggest reserves of fresh water, are key regions for Earth's climate. Through their "Arctic Arc" expedition, Alain Hubert and Dixie Dansercoer want to raise public awareness about the fragility of the Arctic and about the dramatic changes already taking place there. Indeed, climatic change has an important impact on the hydric system of every single region in the world, and most especially in the Polar Regions.
This is the subject we invite you to explore through this new question. Whether you are children, teachers, entire classes or just interested adults, you are all invited to present your opinion. An expert will also publish his own opinion on this page in a few weeks.
"Polar regions hold more than 70 % of Earth's fresh water resources. From your point of view, what stakes are linked with water supplies in your area? And in the world?"
