“The Arctic Arc” educational project continues !
From March to July 2007, Alain Hubert and DixieDansercoer successfully crossed the Arctic Ocean, by skis and on foot, via theNorth Pole. In addition to the physical feat this expedition represented, theArctic Arc allowed to observe the important impacts of climate change aroundthe North Pole. The expedition is now over, but the educational project carrieson for a second year!
The first year of the project mainly focussed on studying polar regions. This year we will cover wider subjects such as energy and climate change, linking them to the polar regions and more particularly to the Arctic. Indeed, the Arctic seems to hold a great amount of underground energy resources (oil, natural gas) coveted by many countries. The stakes are high. The exploitation and use of all these resources would further raise CO2 emissions and therefore also contribute to climate change, which drastically modifies the climate of the polar regions. We will introduce these themes through images, videos and interviews of Alain Hubert after his expedition.
Educational tools and activities :
From now on until the 15th of February :
Make a news report on one of the numerous themes suggested and thus become a "Reporter of the Poles". You could win the opportunity to meet Alain Hubert or one of the Polar Foundation's scientists!
- Animations on energy;
- Scientific experiences to do in class linked to these animations;;
- Numerous educational files:
- fossil and renewable energies
- climate and climate change
- Impacts of climate change on humans
- video galeries on the polar regions;
- Video interviews of Alain Hubert;
- A comic book on climate and environmental changes.
