Teacher Meeting in Oslo
The IPF education team just came back from the IPY Oslo Science Conference. In conjunction with this five-day polar science conference, 120 teachers from 20 countries all over the world participated in an educational gathering: PolarTEACHERS. Worldwide education efforts directed towards polar science were presented and everybody had the opportunity to share its experience with others.
Two members of our education team attended this conference: Sandra Vanhove (head of IPF's education team) and Mieke Sterken (educational officer). Sandra was one of the organizers of the conference and led four workshops on albedo. Enthusiastic about the workshop, teachers decided to create a "Polar Teachers network", inspired by the existing Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS).
As a former APECS "Education & Outreach" Committee member, Mieke Sterken participated in the conception of the Polar Resources Book, presented at the conference. This book for teachers brings together educational resources regarding Polar Science (educational projects, tools, classroom experiments, etc.). The IPF contributed to the book by presenting five of its classroom activities and four of its projects. If you are interested, the book is available for sale.
