Polarstern / CAML expedition: the Polar Antarctic Circle
A real Sunday, except for the sun, which was mostly hidden today. When a report begins with the weather, it is not a good sign ! And indeed it was a really quiet day, the Polarstern is saling through the ice, disturbing a few seals and penguins here and there. Thankfully, whales do provide us with some highlights: at the end of the afternoon, Lynn made her first observation of Minke Whales in the ice from the ship itself.
At the end of the day, we had our first polar dusk. Around 11 PM, we crossed the Polar Antarctic Circle, at precisely 66° 37'. Thus no sunset ? Well, not yet, as we are still less than a month away from the Antarctic summer solstice, the sun did manage to slip once more behind the horizon, without depriving us from its light.
