The International Polar Foundation participated in the second edition of the Polar Summer School for teachers, organized by the Italian Museo Nazionale dell'Antartide between the 16 and 20 of July 2012.
The summer school aims to train 12 Italian teachers who want to address polar science topics in their classrooms. Among other national and international experts, Isabelle Noirot presented the projects of the International Polar Foundation and organized a workshop featuring experiments related to climate change.
At the end of those four days, one teacher was selected from among the participants to carry out an educational project in Antarctica during the next Italian National Antarctic Research Programme (
PNRA). Luca Miserere, a Natural Science and Geography high-school teacher from Turin, will develop his project named “The sea ice, source of biodiversity”, during the 2012 austral summer.
This adventure will undoubtedly have a great positive impact on Luca and his students, as it has been the case for Koen Meirlaen, winning teacher of the 2010-2012 Polar Quest contest in Belgium, organized by the International Polar Foundation. These two projects share the goal of bringing polar science in the classroom. We wish Luca the best of luck for his coming experience!
