Discover the six new themes covered by these recently posted fact sheets, six new incursions into the polar world, full of impressive facts and figures.

Climate change and world's fossil fuels limited reserves increasingly call the world's attention to polar regions which hold promises of innumerable underground riches and possible shorter routes for commercial ships. Antarctica is protected from any form of economic exploitation by the Antarctic Treaty, but this is not the case of the Arctic region, which results into two very different geopolitical situations. Nevertheless, both polar regions share other great challenges such as severe pollution coming from the industrialized countries or fishing rates exceeding the fish stock capacities.

These new fact sheet's goal is to allow you to discover all these closely interlinked subjects, while still keeping in mind that these pristine landscapes also hold the secrets of Earth's climate history, another kind of treasure, which is carefully studied and registered by scientists coming from everywhere around the world.

These 6 fact sheets are meant for secondary teachers' information or as class material for students of higher degrees (15 to 18 years old). Each text also includes a glossary and web links allowing to go into the subject in greater depth.
