Deep-sea cores taken on board R/V Marion Dufresne can easily reach 50 m of length. Therefore, they have to be cut in section of 1.5 m so they can be stored more easily. Afterwards, they are clearly labelled and cleaned before they are opened for description. Here, you see the (sheltered) workspace on board of R/V Marion Dufresne, where all the core labelling and splitting work is performed.
